NDGA JUDGE’S TRAINING SCHOOL
Prerequisites for Licensing: You must be 18 years of age or older by the date of training
You must be a current NDGA member in good standing
You must pay the $10 judge’s Fee upon passing JTS
Auditors will participate in all activities except for the practical (oral reasoning's). If the auditor passes the written exam and wishes to continue to the Oral Reasons of the exam, they may pay the difference between the auditor and JT candidate ($25)
All participants are required to have read and KNOW the manual prior to the classroom session.
Sample itinerary for a JTS is as follows but may be subject to change depending on number of participants and location:
Friday
1:30 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. Classroom Portion
The JTS classroom portion will cover the following:
1. Reasons for becoming a judge
2. Judge’s Code of Ethics
3. Show Ring Etiquette
4. NDGA Breed Standards
5. Structure
6. NDGA Scorecard
7. Conformation
8. Mammary System
9. Faults and Disqualifications
10. Judging and Ring Procedures
11. Judging individual Classes: Does, Bucks and Wethers
12. Judging Group Classes
13.Showmanship and Youth Judging
14. Giving Oral Reasons- Using Comparative Terms
15. NDGA Official Show Rules and Report of Award
16. Height Certification
4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M Shadow judge (optional)
7:00 P.M.- 7:30 P.M. Dinner
7:30 P.M- 9:30 P.M Written Test
The written portion of the test (requires a passing grade of 80%) will cover:
1. Labeling the parts of the Nigerian Dairy Goat
2. True and False
3. Scorecards
4. Fill in the blank and multiple choice
5. The Report of Award
Saturday
8:00 A.M NDGA 3 judge Show
4:00 P.M or as soon as the show is over- 8:00 P.M Hands On Practicum
Sunday
One or two more shows in the morning
11:00 -12:00- Lunch
12:00- to approximately 2:00 P.M. – Oral Reasoning's for Judge’s License
The oral examination (giving reasons, must have 80% accuracy):
1. Placing multiple classes.
2. Giving accurate, appropriate reasons and presentation
Participants will be told if they passed and will be offered a Judges license after all participants are finished with oral reasons and the committee has tallied up the scores.
