WHAT'S IN A NAME?
Females are called does; males are called bucks and offspring are called kids. Impress your friends and relatives by referring to goat anatomy by using the proper terminology.

ndga Objectives

ndga will strive to:

1. Establish and maintain a breed standard that emphasizes the original, small dairy goat characteristics without sacrificing function.
2. Encourage the breeding of the Nigerian Dwarf Goat.
3. Enlarge the market for the Nigerian Dwarf Goat by helping breeders through
diversified breeding programs that support milking and non-milking herds.
4. Facilitate communication and cooperation among breeders.
5. Assist and promote regional affiliate clubs and organizations.
6. Gather and disseminate practical and theoretical knowledge of the Nigerian Dwarf
Goat.
7. Facilitate the registration of certified Nigerian Dwarf foundation animals and their offspring.
8. Promote and popularize the breed through publicity and advertising.

ndga Policy Overview

ndga will strive to maintain consistency and integrity of all sanctioned shows by measuring all senior (mature, breeding-age) animals and any others at the judge's discretion. A senior doe can earn one championship "leg" toward her Permanent Grand status as a dry doe. Both junior bucks and does (under 12-18 months of age) can earn one leg towards their Permanent Grand status. Does will need 3 championship "legs" to obtain Permanent Grand status; while bucks must obtain 4 Grand Champion legs for Permanent Grand Champion recognition by the registry.

ndga will recognize all milking achievements of our animals by supporting milk testing as aggressively as possible. ndga Milk Testing is conducted through DHIA. We will provide you with step-by-step procedures of how to milk test, types of milk tests available and names of supervisors you may contact to perform the tests. ndga shows will offer, as often as possible, a one-day milk test to its members. Previously earned stars and awards will be carried over into ndga.

All Nigerian Dwarfs currently registered with AGS, IDGR or CGS will automatically be eligible for registration providing they meet the ndga breed standard. A photocopy of the registration certificate along with current height measurement (at the withers) must be included with the ndga application for registration.
